Last Week in Pictures and Skills This Week

Our Leader of the Week is sharing her poster with the class!

We are working on answering key questions for non-fiction text.
What is the text mostly about?
What does a chef do?
Why does a chef wear what he/she wears?
We are practicing the habit of going back in the text to find the evidence!

We are becoming comma experts and adding commas in series.
Can you write down a sentence or two for your child with a series and see if your child can properly add the commas in the list?

Our Leader is sharing her pictures with the class.

The PJs (Pastor/Jorjorian's 5th grade class) are teaching us about Mindfulness.
We are learning how Mindfulness strategies can help us calm our bodies, get our focus back on, and help with worries).

We learned some different Mindfulness activities from our 5th grade buddies.

We are continuing to dig deeper in non-fiction text.

What do you do after you read?
We do something!
Our class has been busy on Seesaw sharing what we have read in class.
If we read a non-fiction text, we are working on sharing 3 facts.
If we read a fiction text, we are working on retelling the key details of what happened
in the beginning, middle, and end.

Our Leader is reading her book to the class.

Which One Doesn't Belong?
We did several activities in class where we had to determine which one doesn't belong and provide at least one reason why it doesn't belong.
We are working on critical thinking and our speaking skills.
In this project, we had to write down our thinking and use a checklist to make sure we followed all of the directions!

MAP Testing begins this Friday, December 7th. We will begin with the Math portion of the test. Please do what you can to make sure your child gets a good night sleep, breakfast, and comes to school on time with a full-charged iPad and headphones. We will be testing first thing in the morning during our entire testing. Our MAP testing will continue Monday, December 10th through Wednesday, December 12th.

LEADER IN ME:
Challenge for the Week- Earlier in the year, we had a Leader in Me challenge of Habit 3 "Put First Things First."

I would like to collect little blurbs and pictures of your child showing leadership outside of school. Is your child thinking of others and demonstrating kindness to someone in the community, a family member, someone in need? Please share a picture and a blurb to me by Friday, December 7th. I will be putting together another newsletter showcasing the Kindness from students in Room 8. Please reach out to me with questions.

Have a great week!
