Friends are sharing a book they wrote during morning recess.
If your child writes a story at home, please have him/her bring it in to read to the class!
My students last year absolutely LOVED reading their stories to the class.
We were busy exploring the different math tools around the classroom.
We also worked on playing and problem solving with others.
Which One Doesn't Belong?
We are learning how to pay attention to details, determine one that doesn't belong, and provide reasons why it doesn't belong. We are working towards the discussion of saying "I agree with ___ because the other pictures do not have the number twelve in it."
This is a great activity for families to play at home with items around the house!
This picture is from another challenge!
We were busy painting our beautiful self-portraits!
We completed the challenge of determining if a phrase of words is a sentence or not a sentence.
We read our words to the class and determined if it included a "Who" and "Did What."
Writer's Workshop is getting started! Today we worked on our "On Demands."
We will look back at these to see how we grew as writers!
After checking out books at the LMC, we explored different stations.
We did coding and tangrams with Osmo.
We explored Code and Go Robot Mouse.
We used our building skills for the marble maze.
We drew amazing pictures and colored.
We explored Cozmo the robot.
We learned about our "path" on Freckle for Operations and Algebraic Thinking.
This helps us to work on skills that are just right for where we are at with our understanding of the standard.
We also established our "path" for Reading Eggs.
This will help us with our reading skills!
In science, we are learning about shadows.
Our challenge was to make the gnome's shadow move without moving the paper.
What did we have to do?
Ask your child all about it!
After working on writing about a "small moment," students shared their writing with a buddy.
We had our very first "Freckle Fun Time!"
We divided the class in 4 groups.
Each group had a unique location to work on Freckle.
If we had a question about how to solve a problem, we could ask a friend.
The challenge was to help our friend without just giving the answer.
We had to teach our friend how to answer the problem.
Way to go, Cacioppo Crew!
We had a Guest Reader visit today- Mrs. Neu- from the office!
She read Dragons Love Tacos 2!
We learned a new game today- Break It- to help us with counting forward and counting back.
We started off with 10 cubes in a train. One person in the pair would put the 10 cubes behind her back, break it into two parts, and show one part to the partner. The partner had to use her counting forward/counting back skills to determine the number of cubes hiding behind the partner's back.
Once we felt comfortable with 10 cubes, we moved up to 15 cubes, and then finally up to 20 cubes.
Good counting/adding/subtracting, 1st graders!
Next week we will continue with MAP testing.
Have a great, long, and wonderful weekend!
