Wow! It was a great first week in Room 8!

Happy First Day of First Grade from the 1st Grade teachers:
Mrs. Comitor, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Friedlander, and Mrs. Cacioppo

We are all lined up and ready to start our day!

Why do we come to school?
We are busy writing down reasons why school is important.

Mrs. Buch is teaching us all about lunch in the MPR.

The 1st Grade Teachers are teaching us all about the playground rules since we are
no longer on the "kindergarten playground."

We are learning about each other as we share our "Me Bags."

As we present, we are working on talking loud for the audience to hear.
As we listen, we are working on whole body listening (eyes watching, ears listening, voices quiet, and hands to self).

It was great learning more about our students!

We LOVE Go Noodle!
It is time to move around and have fun.

We made it through our first day of school as 1st Graders!!!

We are working on our reading stamina (staying focused on reading and not talking to others).
Today we made it 7 minutes!
Our goal is to reach 20 minutes. We can do it!

Later on we got to cozy up and read with a friend.

We learned how to use a new app on our iPad called "Epic!"
It is a digital library with 25,000 books.
This free app can only be utilized at school, but I can send home information on
how you can purchase the app (for a reduced rate) so you can have it at home.

Mrs. Meredith came in for a very important visit.
We learned how we can GROW OUR BRAINS!
Be sure to ask your child about it.

We also did many "getting to know you" activities where we could find out what we have in
common with other students in the class.

Ms. Schippers gave us a grand introduction to the LMC.
We now get to pick books from the shelves!
Ask your child about the special tool we use so we can remember where the book goes when remove it from the shelf to sneak a peek to see if it is a good fit.

We do a lot of turn and talks in first grade!
We are working on taking turns, whole body listening, good presenting voice, and following directions on what to talk about with our buddy.

We were able to practice our spatial math skills by exploring ST Math.
The class also enjoyed using our cool flexible seating.
We learned that we have options to go to different places where we can do our best thinking.

On Thursday we made it to 8 minutes for silent reading.
Time to celebrate!!!

I do not have a picture of our HUGE accomplishment this week...

Today we read silently for 13 minutes!
