Retelling, Zones of Regulation, and Unplugged Coding

Buddy Reading-
We read with a partner to learn about Labor Day.
After we read, we wrote about a community worker and
what they do to help the community.

5th Grade Buddies:
Today we visited 5th Grade! Mrs. Jorjorian and Mrs. Paster's students taught us about Big Rocks (priorities). We learned that we need to tackle and complete our Big Rocks before we move on to the other things we love to do.

A little rain doesn't stop our class from having fun!

Our class has been working on Putting First Things First.
For a family connection project, we worked on creating our own flowchart
so we know our plan.

We read A Duck So Small

This week in reading, we learned that readers DO something after they read a story. We learned that we can tell someone about the story (share what happened, our favorite part, the characters, the setting, etc.).

Today we worked on retelling the story. What happened First? Next? Then? Finally?

4 Zones of Regulation-
Ms. Gillis visited our classroom to teach us all about the 4 zones.

We learned how to identify the zone by looking at facial expressions and actions.

We worked in teams to identify the emotion and determine what zone the character is in.

We listened to The Gruffalo. Our goal was to recall the character order in the story.
We used a technique called "Unplugged Programming" to program a person to step on each of the characters in the right order.

Be sure to ask your child all about it!

Have a great, long weekend!
See you on Tuesday.
